Hand Sanitiser
What is hand sanitiser?
Hand sanitiser comes in various forms. It can be a liquid or a gel or even a foam.
Its main purpose is to decrease infectious germs on the hands. Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water is the preferred method but when soap and water are not readily available, an alcohol hand santiser if often the next best option.
To be effective, hand sanitizer should contain at least 60% alcohol. Because of the high alcohol content, sanitisers are flammable. Most sanitisers will contain a compound like Glyserene to prevent the skin from drying out.
How to use a hand sanitiser.
Apply the hand sanitizer to the palm one hand. Then rub both hands together making sure you cover the whole hand and fingers. Continue rubbing till your hands feel dry. Remember, the alcohol in the sanitiser makes it flammable so keep your hands away from open flames after you have sanitized.
Remember, sanitizer will not work effectively on visibly dirty or greasy hands. It works best on clean hands.
When should I use hand sanitiser?
Hand sanitizer should be used when you do not have access to soap and running water. Use it as often as possible to keep your hands germ free. To try to slow down the Covid-19 infection rate it is a good idea to use a hand sanitizer after you have touched a surface that could have been touched by someone who has the virus. So sanitize as often as you can.
